New Search Engine for RapidShare, Megaupload and Co

My
readers who use RapidShare (RS) to
share files will know
that they don’t provide any service to search the files they provide. Those adept with Google or Yahoo advanced search operators will know that you can
browse most of the files on RapidShare and other similar services as well as from and
blogs and forum threads that give
links to RapidShare files. However, it is
more simplistic to use specialised RapidShare search engines.

There are two types of RS
search engine. One of them looks for RapidShare
files and indexes them, while the other makes use
of Google or Yahoo to find forum threads, blog posts and other platforms that link to RapidShare files. I find that the ones that makes use of Google or Yahoo give better results. This is because
they will find more files, they generally index new
files quicker and you can find out about what you
are seeking – this is important as a great number of files are password protected. Also, I find that all
the sties that index the hosted files have a
very inadequate search facilities and
will thus give very poor results.
However, one of the shortcomings with most of the RapidShare search engines is that
they are drenched in advertising.
The most annoying of all are those new JavaScript overlays which have
the skip button at the top. A few days ago, I was on StumbleUpon and came across
this Rapidshare search engine. I
scoped it out and was surprised to see that not only was the
front page not covered in advertising, its was actually
pretty well designed and easy to use. Another
thing I liked about it is that you can search
more than one file sharing services at once.
Most other sites only allow you to
query one, one at a time or don’t let you
choose which services to search. This feature is pretty helpful as I only have a RapidShare
account, but on the odd occasion that RS has not got the file I want, I will swap to check out
some of the other file hosts.

After doing some research into JQD, I found out from
a blog
that the operator is also banning a lot of malicious
sites from the index.
Anyone who has used an RS engine that uses Google or
Yahoo will be familiar with the amount of
spam and Russian warez sites trying to
deceive you into downloading a virus you will come across. After
using JQD for a few days, I can say there is
a huge improvement in this area as I haven’t found any such spam
sites.
